Lancaster Christian Writers Offers Social Media Workshop Saturday, June 21st PLUS Invite to Fiction Workshop with Novelist Mike Dellosso

Don’t miss Lancaster Christian Writers' LAST meeting before summer break Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Rd (off Hwy 30 across from Costco) from 9:30AM-12 noon ((registration opens at 9). Social media experts (and LCW members) Lisa Bartelt and Alison McLennan will be sharing a workshop on that 21st century challenge and necessary evil for all serious writers—creating your platform as a writer through BLOGGING.

WORKSHOP:The 100% Surefire Guaranteed Secret to Blogging Success Beyond Your Wildest Dreams.” Sounds good, right? If only it were that easy! But don’t fret! LCW members Alison McLennan and Lisa Bartelt, both experienced bloggers, will share some beginning tips for bloggers during this workshop including tips for effective blogging and how to set up a blog on a free site. They'll talk about the whys and hows of blogging as well as give some thought to who should have a blog. And after the workshop, if you're still not sure about blogging, Alison and Lisa will stick around during critique time to answer questions and help you work out whether blogging is for you.

OUR SPEAKERS: Lisa Bartelt has been a newspaper reporter and copy editor, as well as a freelance writer, whose work has appeared in Group Publishing curriculum, in devotional compilations, and in Thriving Family and Prayer Connect magazines. She is also an avid blogger whose writing appears regularly on her own site, http://lmbartelt.wordpress.com and at Putting On the New (http://puttingonthenew.com ) as well as in guest posts elsewhere on the Web. She’s been a member of LCW for five years and recently joined American Christian Fiction Writers.

Alison McLennan declared her intent to "make books" at age 3, and her dream never wavered. With experience as a journalist, freelance writer, book editor, and published author, Alison recently returned to her first literary love: fiction. She also writes about faith forged in hard places on her blog at AlisonMcLennan.com. If you want to say hi, she’d love to connect with you on Twitter (@AlisonJMcLennan) or Facebook (facebook.com/AlisonJMcLennan).

Ask any question you want about writing, publishing, dealing with publishers and editors, money . . . whatever! Come prepared to learn, to be inspired, and to leave ready to dive into your project.

Some of the highlights of the day will include: 1) Developing characters that jump off the page and into the reader's life; 2) Creating settings that take on a life of their own; 3) Pacing that will keep readers turning pages; 4) Different publishing methods . . . which one is right for you? 5) Beating writer's block and improving your time management; 6) Ask-anything Q & A. Find out more information including the schedule of topics, cost, and how to register at:

NOTE FROM LCW PRESIDENT: On a personal note, I (Jeanette Windle) am traveling over the next two weeks to Sri Lanka on a missions journalism ministry trip. I will be meeting with and interviewing ministry leaders from seven nations—Nepal, Myanmar, India, Indonesia, Philippines, South Africa, and Sri Lanka—as they come together for a leadership summit and traveling through Sri Lanka itself, visiting ministries and churches, including Tamil Tiger war zones still recovering from civil war. I return just a day before our June 21st meeting (if I don’t show, assume I’ve been taken hostage!). I would appreciate prayer for travel connections, safety and God’s blessing as I interview and write the stories of these wonderful brothers and sisters in Christ.

As always, email questions or concerns to jeanette@jeanettewindle.com

Blessings,
Jeanette Windle
