LCW Welcomes Acclaimed Novelist Eliot Pattison Saturday, 2/21/15 PLUS Short Story Opportunity

Join Lancaster Christian Writers in welcoming acclaimed international suspense novelist Eliot Pattison on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Lancaster Alliance Church, 210 Pitney Rd (off Hwy 30 across from Costco) from 9:30AM-12 noon ((
registration opens at 9).

SPEAKER: Eliot Pattison has been described as a "writer of faraway mysteries," a label particularly apt for someone whose travel and interests span a million miles of global trekking. An international lawyer by training, he is the author of three acclaimed mystery series. His Edgar award-winning Inspector Shan series explores his deep concerns for the people of Tibet and has been translated into over twenty languages around the world. Pattison’s most recent release, Soul of the Fire, eighth book in the Inspector Shan series, has been selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the twenty best mysteries of 2014. For more information, visit: www.eliotpattison.com

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Bringing Faraway Lands to Life: Histories and news reports about peoples distant in place and time might capture the facts, but can be sterile and impersonal. When done well, a novel can transport readers to the stark realities of those lives, allowing them to experience those lands and that adversity on a much more personal, even visceral, level. Join author Eliot Pattison as he shares from his own vast experience the challenges and principles of bringing exotic locations and distant historical times to life for readers, a necessary skill whether writing fiction or non-fiction.

SHORT STORY OPPORTUNITY: Lancaster Christian Writers has received another call-out for short story submissions, this time for a devotional series being published by Kathy Ide, author, founder and coordinator of the Christian Editor Connection, director of Orange Count Christian Writers Conference. She is currently asking for submissions for her fiction-lovers’ devotional 21 Days of Love: Stories that Celebrate Treasured Relationships. Deadline to submit is March 1, 2015. Details on how to submit your fiction story can be found at http://kathyide.com/devotional-guidelines/

CRITIQUE GROUPS: And don't forget to bring your latest work-in-progress from this summer for critique groups (ten copies up to 1500 words).
