Lancaster Christian Writers Meets This Saturday, April 21

Dear Lancaster Christian Writers:

Happy Easter! (somewhat belated). A reminder that LCW meets this Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, 419 Pierson Rd, Lititz, PA, 17543 from 9:30AM-12 noon (registration opens at 9). We will be meeting back in our regular haunt--classrooms A101 and A103 down hall left of main lobby across from kitchen. Novelist, missions journalist and editor Jeanette Windle (okay, that's me!) will be teaching a workshop: "Hook or Elevator Pitch: Grabbing an Editor's Attention in 10 Seconds or Less". Since this is an interactive, hands-on workshop, please do bring your best fiction or non-fiction hook/elevator pitch (25-100words) to share with the group.--or worst to work on. We will be having our regular critique groups as well. If you are new, check out critique guidelines at our blog; http://lancasterchristianwriterstoday.blogspot.com/

In other news:

1. LCW workshop and devotional leaders:  We have filled up our workshop calendar through June and will be breaking July-August for summer. BUT I would love some volunteers to share an opening devotional April-June. Devotional sharing of our members has been a highlight of LCW. I am always amazed at the talent and depth of spiritual thought that emerges from our group. SO if you have that devotional you've written for publication or a thought for writers you'd like to share, please let me know. , ESPECIALLY for this coming weekend.

3. Super Saturday 2013. Lancaster Bible College hosted our Super Saturday 2012 so delightfully last month, we've already accepted their invitation to host again for 2013. A date has been nailed down for Saturday, April 6th. It isn't too early to get that on your calendar. And if you have suggestions for faculty or workshops, it isn't too early to let me know on that either.

As always, regular news bulletings for LCW can be found at our blogsite:  Until Saturday.

Blessings,

Dear Lancaster Christian Writers:

What an awesome day Super Saturday 2012 turned out to be March 24th at Lancaster Bible College. All the faculty arrived safely, a record number of conferees, and beautiful weather. How can one beat that? We've already confirmed a date to host SS2013 again at LBC. SO mark your calendar now for Saturday, April 6th, 2013.

Meanwhile, our next meeting will be Saturday, April 21, at Lancaster Evangelical Free Church, 419 Pierson Rd, Lititz, PA, 17543 from 9:30AM-12 noon (registration opens at 9). I will be teaching a workshop: "Hook or Elevator Pitch: Grabbing an Editor's Attention in 10 Seconds or Less". This will be hands-on, so here is your opportunity to bring your best query hook/elevator pitch (25-100 words  along to share with the group. AND plan to work on your perfect pitch for your current WIP, fiction or non-fiction.

Several LCW news items:

1. Colorado Christian Writers Conferences: Conference director has let me know that scholarships are still available for CCWC., which is May 16-19, 2012.  The scholarship application deadline has been extended to April 6th. Which is just two days away, so if you are interested, check out info and application at:
http://www.writehisanswer.com/Colorado/Scholarships.htm

2. LCW workshop and devotional leaders:  We have one opening still to teach a workshop this year at the May 19th LCW meeting. If you have a workshop you'd like to present or can recommend a workshop leader, whether for May or our fall/winter upcoming calendar, please let me know. Also if you would like to share a devotional for any of the remaining months (April-June). As always, we will be breaking for July/August before beginning again in the fall.

3. One final personal note.  It was a wonderful surprise to learn this last week that my most recent novel, Freedom's Stand. set in Afghanistan, has been named an ECPA 2012 Christian Book Award finalist (it is the sequel to Veiled Freedom, a 2010 Christian Book Award and Christy Award finalist). This is NOT a plug for you to read it if you haven't, BUT it will be available at the April meeting. :) Here are all the nominations if you'd like to check them out:
